A university town runs on high performance and constant turnover — and depth-oriented care can be surprisingly scarce. As a Florida-licensed psychologist and certified psychoanalyst, I work with adults across Gainesville and North Central Florida by video — serious, confidential depth work that fits around a demanding calendar.
Schedule a ConsultationGainesville is shaped by the University of Florida and UF Health — one of the largest academic medical centers in the Southeast. That gives the city an unusual concentration of graduate students, faculty, residents, physicians, and researchers, all living under sustained intellectual and professional pressure. It's also a transient place: people arrive for a degree or a training program and leave a few years later, which can make it hard to put down roots or find steady, in-depth support before the next move.
I offer individual psychotherapy and psychoanalysis for adults — in-depth work that looks beneath symptoms to the patterns, relationships, and early experiences that shape how you feel. My practice is grounded in contemporary relational psychoanalysis and intersubjective systems theory, with an attachment-theory influence.
Graduate school, medical training, and the tenure track share a particular kind of strain: perfectionism, impostor feelings, isolation, and the sense that struggling is a weakness you can't afford to show. Brief, symptom-focused counseling — often all a busy campus can offer — may not reach what's actually driving the distress. Longer-term psychoanalytic work can, and it does so confidentially, outside any campus system.
Between clinical rotations, lab hours, teaching schedules, and the reality that many people here will relocate when their program ends, video is often the only practical way to do consistent depth work. You can meet from a private space near campus, in Haile Plantation, or anywhere in Alachua County — and if you leave Gainesville for a residency or a new position elsewhere in Florida, our work can continue without interruption. Telehealth also widens a genuinely thin local supply of psychoanalytically trained clinicians.
I specialize in working with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship and attachment concerns, and neurodiversity — including adult ADHD and academically gifted people whose inner experience may not match how capable they appear. I also work with burnout, grief and loss, and life transitions. If briefer approaches have left the deeper questions unaddressed, longer-term psychoanalytic work may be what's been missing.
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the State of Florida (PY6593) and a Certified Psychoanalyst with more than three decades of experience. I completed eight years of post-doctoral psychoanalytic training and am a founding faculty member of the Tampa Bay Institute for Psychoanalytic Studies. You can read more about my background, the services I offer, or how online therapy works.
For a confidential consultation, call or email directly. I'll answer your questions and, if it's a good fit, we'll schedule a first session.
